Scott McTominay says friend is responsible for Nick Kyrgios’ hilarious ‘Can’t buy a serve’ viral moment.
A clip of the Australian being heckled at Wimbledon in 2019 regularly does the rounds on social media when the world famous tennis tournament rolls around.
Kyrgios was taking on compatriot Jordan Thompson in the first round at the All England Club, and found himself under pressure as the third set had to be decided on a tie-break.
While serving for the set at 9-8, Kyrgios faulted his first attempt.
This prompted the frustrated Aussie to scream: “I can’t buy a first serve,” to the amusement of everyone in the crowd.
But the joke didn’t stop there, when his second attempt clipped the net for a let.
A fan then shouted: “You can’t buy a second serve!” with the crowd on Court three erupting into even more laughter.
Kyrgios certainly saw the funny side, who turned to laugh along with the spectators, and smiled as he prepared for his third serve attempt.
The hilarious interaction quickly went viral on social media, and continues to pop up online six years later.
However, the identity of the heckler had been a mystery until Napoli and Scotland star McTominay joined talkSPORT show Wimbledon Unfiltered, which is hosted by Kyrgios and broadcaster Gordon Smart.
After inspiring the Italian giants to Serie A glory last season with a stunning individual campaign, the ex-Manchester United midfielder joined Kyrgios where talk turned to his moment that soon went viral.
