LONDON, England – Quinn Gleason, a Honeoye Falls-Lima graduate, represented Rochester on the world stage as she competed at Wimbledon for the second time in her career last week.
“It was really a dream come true,” Gleason said. “The first time I got to play at Wimbledon was in 2021, and we got in as alternates, and it was super last minute with a partner I wasn’t really used to, so we were kind of thrown into the deep end and it was super special to be able to play there, but this time I actually felt like I was prepared.”
Gleason participated in the women’s doubles again, but this time picked up her first career victory at the prestigious tournament alongside her partner, Ingrid Martins. The duo won in two sets during the first round.
“We met on tour a few years ago. I played her at a tournament in Uruguay, and really liked the way she played,” Gleason said of her teammate. “She plays really aggressive with a big serve that sets up her partner. So last year we were talking about playing a few. We played a few last year and won a few tournaments together and then kind of reconnected this year again and things have been going really well.”
“I would definitely put winning my first round at Wimbledon at number one,” Gleason said. “I think it just kind of like helped prove to myself that, like, I belong there and can compete on the biggest stage.”
Despite losing in the second round, Gleason remained in high spirits, acknowledging that this is the best tennis she has played in her career.
“It’s been really fun last few months. I feel like I’m finally finding my way, like I had a lot of pieces and they’re finally coming together,” Gleason said.
Gleason also played in front of her family at the Grand Slam event, easing some anxiety before her matches.
“Tennis being an individual sport, you really need to lean on people off court,” Gleason said. “So I have the best family, the best support system. I’m super lucky. My dad and my sister both came to Wimbledon and for the French Open a month ago, both my parents came, which was really special. So yeah, winning is one thing, but winning in front of the people that have always supported you and loved you through the highs and the lows is another level.”
The Mendon native previously competed at Wimbledon in 2021.
Gleason and Martins are currently ranked as the 70th-best doubles duo in the world, according to the Women’s Tennis Association.
