Working to beautify neighborhoods

For the past month, Friends of Del Cerro have been sending submissions to the city through the Get It Done app. More than 25 were sent through.

Several have already been completed, including replacing two street signs, trimming several palm trees on the west side of College Avenue before the westbound off-ramp to I-8, repairing a guardrail adjacent to 6729 Del Cerro Blvd., and weed abatement at the intersection of St. Therese Way and St. Denis Terrace.

Mark Allan, the president of FODC, reported that they are evaluating a newer, less expensive but more efficient alternative to the current camera on top of Pasatiempo. He said that the new system will allow designated residents to view activity in the area any time they are notified by the camera system.

I recently met with Anthony Hackett, a senior community representative for Councilmember Raul Campillo who is assigned to the Navajo Community.  We discussed the ongoing situation with abandoned property across the street from the Windmill Farms Shopping Center.

I asked on behalf of Del Cerro, since the building permits for the proposed megastructure expired in June, whether the existing structures could be leveled to eliminate the ongoing problem of individuals living inside the buildings. It would also eliminate an eyesore.

We will both be following up with San Diego State University for an update on the SDSU property between College Avenue, I-8, and the homes bordering the canyon.

At one point there was a discussion for SDSU to develop their property as an agricultural area.

Hopefully there will be an update on that topic for the August issue of Mission Times Courier.
