What to expect for Monday's severe weather storms ...Middle East

DENVER (KDVR) — More severe weather is expected on Monday, with large hail, damaging winds and a chance for isolated tornadoes landing in some parts of Colorado.

Severe weather, usually made up of hail, stronger winds and even tornadoes, was recorded on Sunday. Parts of Colorado saw thunderstorms and large hail, with Colorado Springs seeing hail as big as the size of an egg. Meanwhile, Morgan County saw an isolated tornado.

Now, more of the same weather is on its way.

What to expect for incoming severe weather storms

The Pinpoint Weather team is expecting strong winds, large hail and some isolated tornadoes on Monday. Here's everything you should know:

Timing

Monday morning starts sunny, but clouds will start to develop in the afternoon.

There will be isolated storm chances in the metro starting in the afternoon, and the Pinpoint Weather team said there will be a slight and enhanced risk for severe weather starting at 2 p.m. and lasting until 8 p.m.

As of 1 p.m., the National Weather Service said weak shower activity is bringing strong winds over southern Denver and Aurora.

The storms will last through the afternoon and evening before calming down after sunset. These storms should be the last of the severe weather for the week, as the rest of the week is expected to be sunny with temperatures potentially rising to 100 degrees.

Severe weather is expected in Denver and the Eastern Plains. Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Greg Perez said Denver has a marginal risk for severe weather, and while there could be storms, there's only about a 5% chance of hail.

By 1 p.m., NWS already reported a localized wind gust to 66 mph at Centennial Airport, but expects gusts of 30 to 50 mph around Denver into the afternoon.

In the Eastern Plains, there's more of a chance for severe weather, with strong winds and hail larger than the size of a quarter expected.

There's a small chance for isolated tornadoes in northeastern Colorado on Monday afternoon, although there's only about a 2% chance of the tornadoes touching down in the state.

Impacts

The storms could affect the commute home from work. Perez said there may be a downpour in the metro, causing visibility issues, but most of the impacts will be along the Eastern Plains.

The Eastern Plains could see damaging hail, gusty winds, downpours, thunder and lightning and elevated tornado risks.

If you're in the Eastern Plains, Perez said visibility could be an issue, and people traveling should watch for weather before heading out. Hail shouldn't be a problem in the metro, but in the Eastern Plains, it's best to move your car inside if possible.
