“Damascus Chamber of Commerce” Calls for Participation in Damascus International Fair

The Damascus Chamber of Commerce has called on economic actors in Damascus and throughout Syria to participate in the pavilions of the 62nd Damascus International Fair and to take advantage of the various sponsorship offers available.

The chamber issued a statement today, Monday, July 7, on the occasion of the 62nd edition of the Damascus International Fair, to be held at the Exhibition City grounds in rural Damascus from August 27 to September 5 under the slogan “Syria Welcomes the World.”

The chamber explained in its statement that this year’s fair is exceptional as it is being held for the first time after Syria was liberated from the Assad regime, followed by political and economic changes reflected in the movement of international delegations to Syria and the decisions by the European Union and the United States to lift sanctions against the country.

The statement pointed out that each edition of the Damascus International Fair reflects the economic phase Syria is going through, criticizing previous editions organized by the former regime over past years, which were sometimes canceled or poorly organized, with limited participation from local and international businesses.

The chamber urged Damascus’s commercial actors to strive for the success of the fair as a local, regional, and international event that brings together the Syrian business sector with its counterparts from brotherly and friendly countries, and “presents a bright image of the new Syrian economy moving toward development, as the Damascus Chamber of Commerce is one of the oldest chambers in the region.”

The chamber recommended that all merchants and companies take advantage of the available sponsorship packages and special offers and contribute to making the fair a success, thereby enhancing Damascus’s status as a regional commercial center.

Since the fall of the former regime, Syria has witnessed accelerated economic openness, marked by visits from Arab and Western delegations and the start of reconstruction negotiations, amid international support for stabilization efforts and the organization of numerous exhibitions and events, the latest being the “Textile Machinery and Accessories” exhibition with the participation of 40 Turkish companies.

The Damascus International Fair is one of the oldest economic fairs in the Middle East, first launched in 1954. Since the start of the Syrian revolution, the former regime had suspended its activities, until it resumed its 59th edition five years later.
