User Experience

The UGREEN Retractable devices come packaged in basic UGREEN retail boxes. There is a clear image of the product housed in the box along with its key details printed on the front. The back includes some more detailed specs. When I got the power bank, 65W charger, car charger, and cable, I unboxed them all and began testing them. Here are the tests I walked through.

The tools I used were:

Input/Output Charging

Out of the box, the power bank had a 39% charge. When I started testing the charging devices to verify their input/output charging amounts, I realized that my main devices (MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad) were all fully charged or had a battery rate above 80%. This meant, that they weren’t going to give me an accurate charging rate/reading on wattage because of trickle charging.

So, I ended up using the power bank to verify the charging wattage of the other devices. The nice thing about doing this is that the power bank’s display could help verify the readings. Between the power bank, USB Power Adapter, and USB Digital Tester, the measurements were usually within a few points of each other.

Power Bank: With the power bank, I did both input and output tests. First, I verified that it did indeed receive a 100W charge from cables/power adapters. It did. When charging output delivery, I connected the power bank to my MacBook Pro to verify each port delivered the correct amount of wattage. Ports USB-C1 and USB-C2 provided approximately 90W separately and Port USB-A delivered approximately 18W. This was below the specs I was expecting, but still noteable for charging most devices.

65W Charger: I was able to confirm that the retractable cable would reach up to 60W for output delivery and the USB-C port would reach 65W without anything else plugged in. The USB-A port provided approximately 18W output charging. All of these were expected outcomes although the USB-A port performed a little below the spec of 22.5W.

Car Charger 145W: The built-in retractable cable provided between 57-62W of output charging. This was in line with the expected 60W output that is published. USB-C2 was support to provide up to 100W and I got a reading of 95.5-106W (depending on the testing device). USB-C1 (located next to the USB-A port) is supposed to provide up to 30W and my readings were 28-32W. When it came to the USB-A cable, the published spec shows it should receive 30W. I was using a USB-C to USB-A charging cable and was only able to get 20W from it. That could have been a limitation of the cable and not the charger.

100W Charging Cable: I used this cable a couple of different times to test the charging output of a different device. Each time I got a measurement between 95-99W on the testing devices.

Retractable Cable Durability

The retractable cable on each of these items has smooth travel in and out of the reel. I repeatedly pulled the cable out and retracted it to see if the cable would lose any of its tension or start to fray. I did not notice either of those things happening. I performed bend and retraction cycles 25+ times on each cable and they remained taught and there was no problem with the retractable cable’s operation. The cable on each device stopped on each of its designated presets, too.

Portability & Build Quality

I was very impressed with the build quality of each of the UGREEN products. The only issues I had were minimal. The car charger seemed to wobble a bit when it was in certain car sockets and the 65W charger is a bit bulky. The power bank comes with a travel pouch and the cable is ultra compact because it retracts into itself.
