(PINPOINT WEATHER) -- Good evening and happy Saturday!
It was a fabulous day across the Carolinas with warm temperatures and relatively tame humidity. Clouds are increasing tonight as Tropical Storm Chantal starts to push towards the coast this evening, with landfall expected overnight. Following landfall, showers are expected for Sunday before dry and hot weather takes over for the first half of the week. Later in the week, we are tracking a slow-moving front that will bring more showers and storms to the region.
As for tonight and your Sunday, dry conditions are expected this evening with overnight lows in the low 70s. As Chantal moves inland, increasing clouds overnight will give way to scattered showers and storms during the day, especially to the east of Charlotte. There is some potential for locally heavy rain in the sandhills, but the wet weather will generally be a nuisance. The clouds and showers, though, will keep our temperatures on the cooler side with highs in the low 80s.
The wet weather will clear out late Sunday, with warmer and drier conditions moving in for Monday. Highs on Monday will push back up into the mid-90s with a small chance of a shower or storm in the afternoon. Tuesday will likely be even hotter for the region with highs in the mid to upper 90s with partly cloudy skies. Starting on Wednesday, a slowly moving frontal boundary will be pushing into the Carolinas, making scattered showers possible the rest of the week. Along with the possible wet weather, we should see cooler temperatures with highs moving back down to around 90.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed the great weather today as tomorrow is likely to be slightly dreary for some. Have a great night!
