Actor Julian McMahon Dies at 56 After Private Battle With Cancer

Julian McMahon, the acclaimed actor recognized for his roles in "Nip/Tuck," "Fantastic Four," and "FBI: Most Wanted," passed away at the age of 56 after a private struggle with cancer . His wife, Kelly, confirmed that he died peacefully on July 2, 2025, in Clearwater, Florida . McMahon's contributions to television and film have left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry, garnering him a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim throughout his career.

McMahon rose to prominence with his portrayal of Dr. Christian Troy in the groundbreaking series "Nip/Tuck," which explored complex themes of beauty and identity . His ability to embody multifaceted characters enabled him to transition seamlessly between genres—from dramatic roles to action-packed blockbusters like "Fantastic Four," where he played the formidable Victor Von Doom . This versatility highlighted not only his talent but also his commitment to his craft.

The actor died in Clearwater, Florida, on Wednesday. He had been diagnosed with cancer, which had not been publicly announced.

    His wife, Kelly Paniagua, confirmed his death on Friday, calling McMahon her “beloved husband”.

    “With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” she said in a statement to Deadline.

    “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.”

    She added: “We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

    McMahon was born in Sydney, Australia, on July 27, 1968. His father served as the Prime Minister of Australia from 1971 to 1972.  

    First starting out as a model, McMahon transitioned into acting and starred in Australian daytime soap operas and movies before moving to Hollywood.

    In 1993, he starred in NBC’s “Another World” and later landed a role on “Charmed,” starring as Cole Turner. He also played Dr. Christian Troy in Ryan Murphy’s hit plastic surgery drama “Nip/Tuck,” a role that lasted six seasons and would earn him a Golden Globe nomination.

    Marvel fans will know McMahon as Dr. Doom in the 2005 “Fantastic Four” movie and the 2007 sequel “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.”

    The actor was previously married to Australian singer Dannii Minogue and Baywatch actress Brooke Burns before marrying Kelly Paniagua in 2014. He had daughter Madison Elizabeth McMahon, 25, with ex-wife Burns.

    Throughout his career, McMahon demonstrated remarkable talent and charisma that captivated audiences.
