For this weekend’s round of racing at Silverstone, several teams have rolled out significant aerodynamic upgrades aimed at extracting extra performance on one of the calendar’s most demanding circuits.

With high-speed corners and long straights, the British track provides a stern test for car balance and downforce efficiency — and many teams have responded with key developments, particularly focused on the floor area.

    All teams have implemented relative changes to their cars, save for Ferrari, Mercedes, and Alpine which have opted to run without new modifications following last week’s Austrian Grand Prix.

    McLaren Brings Comprehensive Floor Redesign

    McLaren headlines the list of updates with a “complete floor” revision to its MCL39, marking one of the most aggressive aerodynamic updates seen so far this season.

    The all-important revised element is designed to enhance flow conditioning and redistribute suction across the car’s underbody, with the aim of delivering an overall boost in aerodynamic efficiency.

    Additionally, the Woking-based outfit has introduced changes to the rear corner of the car, intended to improve both aerodynamic performance and brake cooling – a crucial element at a circuit where high-speed braking zones are interspersed throughout the lap.

    Among the front-runners, Red Bull has also concentrated its latest efforts on the floor of the RB21. The team has reprofiled several floor surfaces, along with a lateral repositioning of the floor’s leading edges.

    These changes are specifically aimed at encouraging greater aerodynamic load while preserving overall flow stability — a delicate balancing act critical for high-speed grip and tire management.

    Aston Martin and Haas Follow Floor-Focused Trend

    Aston Martin has delivered a substantial update package for its AMR25, consisting of four changes — three of which relate to the floor. Modifications have been made to the floor body, fences, and edges, echoing design concepts seen on Red Bull’s car.

    A revised engine cover has also been introduced to complement these updates, optimising airflow through the rear of the car.

    Haas, too, has adopted a similar upgrade philosophy, introducing changes to the floor along with a new sidepod inlet geometry. These alterations are intended to improve overall aerodynamic efficiency and better manage airflow into the car’s cooling systems.

    Other Notable Updates

    Racing Bulls has opted for a front-end change, modifying the geometry of its front wing flap. This update is aimed at improving performance in low balance configurations, likely targeting improved front-end grip in fast direction changes typical of Silverstone’s layout.

    Williams continues to fine-tune its FW47 with revised floor fences. These updates are designed to improve the conditioning of airflow underneath the car, contributing to better downforce generation and more consistent balance.

    Sauber has brought modest changes to both its floor and front wing. Following a promising double points finish in Austria, the Swiss team appears to be refining its existing package rather than making wholesale changes.

    No Changes for Ferrari, Mercedes, and Alpine

    While much of the grid is pressing ahead with mid-season development, Ferrari, Mercedes, and Alpine have all opted to skip upgrades this weekend.

    Ferrari, fresh off a major upgrade package in Austria, appears to be consolidating its current performance baseline. The Scuderia is likely focused on data gathering and setup refinement rather than introducing new components.

    Mercedes, still searching for consistent pace, has not brought any new parts to Silverstone. The team instead appears to be relying on setup changes and strategic execution to turn around its form after a tough weekend in Spielberg.

    Alpine also joins the list of teams without any updates. Following a challenging outing in Austria, the Enstone squad – which currently sits last in the Constructors’ standings – is hoping to reset and stabilise performance before the next phase of development.

    McLaren’s bold floor overhaul signals its intent to remain at the sharp end of the grid, while Red Bull’s targeted refinements show a commitment to continuous, data-driven evolution. For others like Ferrari and Mercedes, a pause in upgrades reflects a more strategic, long-term development cycle.

    With unpredictable weather still on the horizon and a high-speed track layout, Silverstone will be the ultimate test of how effective these upgrades truly are.
