Ozzy Osbourne is heading to his home to take his final bow with a little help from his heavy metal friends.

The self-styled Prince of Darkness announced in February he was getting the band back together for the first time in 20 years for one last concert.

The singer and his original Black Sabbath bandmates will reunite on stage to perform as part of a day dedicated to the music.

Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, the show’s music director, said: “This will be the greatest heavy metal show ever.”

It will also be a fundraising event for charities chosen by the artist and an opportunity for the 76-year-old, who has Parkinson’s, to bid farewell to fans and the genre he was instrumental in creating.

Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning concert will be held on Saturday 5 July at Villa Park, the home ground of Aston Villa FC. Osbourne has been a life-long supporter of the club.

Gates open at 11am (BST), the show starts at 1pm and is scheduled to end at 11pm.

The heavy metal star is going back to his beginnings in every sense, playing with his original bandmates, returning to the city where he began his career and playing at a venue close to his old family home.

It will be an all-day event with a host of heavy metal heroes taking to the stage as part of Ozzy’s final showdown.

Who else is performing at the event?

Aside from Ozzy’s performances as a solo artist, he will be joined on stage by the other three founding members of Black Sabbath Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler to play together.

The concert is sold out but fans who missed out on tickets can still livestream the event.

Not only will it be available to stream on the day but also for up to 48 hours after the event.

What has Ozzy Osbourne said about his final show?

Announcing the gig back in February Ozzy said: “It’s my time to go ‘Back to the Beginning’ … time for me to give back to the place where I was born.

“How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love.

“Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”

Ozzy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019, a degenerative neurological condition which has affected his legs impacting his mobility.

And all profits from Back to the Beginning will be shared across three charities: Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice.

Speaking about his final show in a Q and A with the PR agency agency Premier Comms, he described it as his “final encore; it’s my chance to say thank you to my fans for always supporting me and being there for me”.

He added: “I couldn’t have done my final show anywhere else.

“I had to go back to the beginning.

“It’s a goodbye as far as my live performances go, and what a way to go out. “
