Jake Paul is eligible for an unlikely shot at becoming world champion, as he is now ranked by the WBA.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer has always insisted he has what it takes to become world champion against all odds.
He has fought to a professional record of 12-2 against largely limited opposition, with his defeat coming in his biggest step-up against Tommy Fury in 2023.
In arguable the biggest victory of his career. Paul outpointed former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr last time out.
And as a result, he has now earned a place in the world rankings.
Paul has been immediately placed in at No.14, just four shots shy of the top ten of the division.
He finds himself just five places behind recent world champion Chris Billam-Smith.
And he also ranks just seven behind recent challenger Yuriel Dorticos who fell to defeat against the WBA champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez.
Looking downwards, Paul places above undefeated American Craig Parker, who sits at No.15 with a perfect record of 20 victories.
Incredibly, it now sees him permitted to state his claim for a shot at the world title.
The news will come as a huge shock to the boxing purists, given his influence in boxing is often batted away.
Should he pick up the crown, it would be one of boxing’s grandest achievements and one of the biggest upset stories of all-time.
GettyWBA champion Ramirez is open to giving Paul a shot, an extraordinary feat[/caption]He would become the first influencer in history to ever pick up a world-level title in the sport.
Paul has managed to elevate his profile by fighting some huge names such as Mike Tyson and Nate Diaz, while earning huge purses and building up his experience.
And now he could come up against the biggest uphill battle of his career to date against Mexican champion Ramirez.
‘Zurdo’ would be an overwhelming favourite to win the bout, given his own resume and skillset.
But Paul believes anything is possible, and has revealed talks are underway from his camp over an unlikely shot at Ramirez and a prestigious belt.
The pair even faced off after their respective recent victories on the same card, and fight talk is heating up.
GettyIf Paul was to win a world title, it would be one of boxing’s biggest ever upsets[/caption]Ramirez initially suggested he would be open to facing Jai Opetaia in a preferred unification clash next.
But the lure of a huge payday given Paul’s profile could prove difficult to turn down.
And Ramirez’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya hinted a blockbuster bout could be on the cards.
He said: “I feel that Jake Paul beating Chavez Jr is a huge step towards that world title that he wants and it’s not far-fetched.
“I commend Jake Paul for what he’s done from the start [and] how serious he takes boxing inside the ring,” De La Hoya said.
“When he trains, this guy is probably the hardest worker in the game today.
“He has to prove himself from the back of the bunch and work himself up, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.”
