Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin called out the huge divide between teams in India’s domestic circuit amid the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. His remarks come after Bihar created history by recording the highest innings total in List A cricket by scoring 574 runs against Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday. While Ashwin heaped praise on Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his fiery knock, he wasn’t exactly a fan of the contest between the two teams.
‘Not an ideal contest’
In a video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin pointed out that was a huge divide amongst the domestic teams in terms of quality which led to contests being lopsided. He said that while 14-ear-old Suravanshi had to do what he had to do, the confidence of Arunachal Pradesh would have surely taken a hit following the humiliating loss.
“Huge applause for Vaibhav Suryavanshi. But I again want to ask a question. There is a huge divide, chalk and cheese, in terms of quality with some teams. It becomes very lop-sided with some teams and there is no contest at all. It is not an ideal contest. Credit to Vaibhav for his performance. He is doing what he has to do. But if we are serious about teams like Arunachal Pradesh becoming good sides, what will this do to their confidence?,” Ashwin said.
Suryavanshi slammed the third fastest List A century, taking 36 deliveries to breach the triple-figure mark. He eventually finished with 190 runs to his name. Arunachal’s troubles, however, didn’t end there. Bihar captain Sakib Gani slammed the fastest List A hundred by an Indian, taking just 32 deliveries and eventually finished with 128 runs to his name.
