HARMONY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A man was reportedly shot by an Iredell County deputy outside of Family Dollar in Harmony Monday afternoon.
According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, a deputy responded to a family member calling about a security check for the suspect. When the suspect tried to enter the business with "an edged weapon," the deputy placed his vehicle in the way of the entrance so he couldn't go inside.
Campbell said after an altercation with deputy, the deputy reportedly demanded the suspect to drop weapon. When he didn't, the deputy used a Taser on the suspect, but it was apparently ineffective.
The deputy then fired his gun at the suspect, striking him. The suspect has been transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, but his condition is unknown.
The deputy was uninjured.
