DENVER (KDVR) — Barry Morphew, a man who was charged with first-degree murder of his wife, Susan Morphew, is now in custody at the Alamosa County Jail.
Barry was extradited from Arizona back to Colorado, following a Twelfth Judicial District grand jury's indictment of Morphew on June 20, with a bond set for $3 million.
Morphew had initially waived his right to a hearing in Arizona, so the state had 30 days for extradition.
“Federal, State and local law enforcement have never stopped working toward justice for Suzanne,” Twelfth District Attorney Anne Kelly said in a release. “The Twelfth Judicial District Attorney’s Office stands in solidarity with Suzanne’s family and the citizens of Chaffee and Saguache Counties in pursuing the Grand Jury’s indictment.”
After the charges were announced, Barry Morphew’s attorneys made a statement to FOX31.
“Yet again, the government allows their predetermined conclusion to lead their search for evidence. Barry maintains his innocence. The case has not changed and the outcome will not either,” said David Beller and Recht Kornfeld.
He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Colorado court on July 1 at 1:30 p.m.
