Drivers to get cash back on repairs from Toyota ‘defect’ settlement before July 1 – you just need a single document

DRIVERS are set to get cash back on their Toyota cars, after the manufacturer finally agreed to a settlement.

Motorists will have until July 1 to get some money back and they’ll just need one document.

Toyota agreed to the Rav4 battery settlement in a bid to resolve claims that its iconic SUVs had defective batteries.

The batteries could lead to sudden power loss or electrical fires.

However, the brand has not admitted to any wrongdoing.

According to plaintiffs, drivers of the Rav4 SUVs were forced to pay for repairs as their vehicles stalled and lost power – with the engines of some motors even catching fire.

Motorists who were affected by the Recall 23V-734 – anyone who bought their car from 2013-2018 RAV4 vehicles – will now be eligible for a payout.

Motorists must claim their refund before July 1 and must provide their proof of purchase, including receipts, invoices, credit card statements and repair orders.

Under the settlement, car owners are entitled to a free inspection and reimbursement for repairs which they had to pay for, battery replacements and repairs caused by unique thermal vents.

Drivers are also entitled to free battery inspections to ensure that their batteries are the right size and all compliant batteries will be replaced free of charge.

The battery reimbursement scheme will provide $75 for past battery purchases.

Class members who received a $32 discount under the Customer Advisory 21TG01 will receive $43.

All Class members who did not receive the discount before June 25, 2024, or purchased a battery from Toyota after June 25, 2024, will receive $75.

Anyone who bought a battery from a non-Toyota dealership is not eligible.

The news comes after Toyota adds a “digital curtain” feature to one of its cars.

    What's a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.

These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.

The feature allows drivers to adjust window tinting to its Century SUV – which is known as Japan’s answer to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

Developed by AGC, the technology uses an electrical charge which is applied to the film to control the material in the window.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of drivers have been warned that their private information was leaked over a two year period.

A listing on the dark web appears to expose private information belonging to customers who used certain garage and valet services.
