No one was happy with the way the Indian team bowled in the Headingley Test, and Mohammed Shami is one among the millions of fans. The English team went on to chase 371 at a run-rate of over 4.5 and the bowlers were just ineffective, could not create opportunities and dropped too many chances.
Indian Bowlers Fail to Support Jasprit Bumrah
Shami, who was not picked in the team, went on to say that the bowlers should learn from Jasprit Bumrah, who went on to pick five wickets in the first Test, in fact the first innings. “In bowling, other Indian bowlers should talk to Bumrah and learn from him. They should talk about planning with him and support him. If they will support Bumrah, then we can easily win the match. If I talk about the first match, then I think we need to do a little work in the bowling,” Shami said on his YouTube channel.
Shami Slams Shardul Thakur & Prasidh Krishna

Shami was quite critical of Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna, and said that their wickets did not have any impact. “Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets each in the 2nd innings, but by the time Shardul dismissed two England batters, the match was out of India’s reach. It is very important to take wickets with the new ball. They must support Bumrah. England won the first Test because we gave too many easy runs. We need to find out how to make our bowling side strong,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Indian team has a few more bowling reserves, and Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep are in the squad as well. Another issue that the team faces right now is, that Jasprit Bumrah won’t play all the five matches — and just three.
