Rod Stewart may be 80 years old — but his after-parties are still going strong.
Even though the British rocker was forced to cancel six shows earlier this month (and postpone two) due to the flu, he's planning a huge comeback next week at England's iconic Glastonbury music festival. In a recent interview with Radio Times, Stewart not only teased several onstage surprises, he divulged exactly how he celebrates his after-parties — and not too much has changed since his "Forever Young" days.
“The band have their booze that they request and I have mine. But I think why I love touring now is that we have the best after-gig party," the Grammy Award winner told the outlet on Tuesday, June 17, speaking of his 12-piece band, made up of six women and six men. "All the girls come, we all get showered, all the girls are dancing."
Still, the dynamic between the band has also changed since the '60s, '70s and '80s — especially now that it's not just made up of men. “We put music on and we’re all having a laugh," Stewart shared about how he and his fellow musicians unwind backstage today. "It’s so much more fun than it was in the old days with just the guys. So many egos and drug-taking. It’s brilliant, I love it now.”
As for the female musicians in his band, Stewart — who has been married to Penny Lancaster for 18 years — called the women artists "drop-dead gorgeous, but they’re very talented. And it just levels out the egos of the men," he explained, before adding: "They’re always light-hearted and they keep me young – ooh!”
