Jajpur: The death toll from the diarrhea outbreak in Odisha has climbed to 21, with over 1,700 cases reported across seven districts.
Jajpur district remains the worst-affected, where the disease has taken epidemic proportions, prompting the closure of eateries, fast food stalls, and meat shops in affected areas, as per reports.
As many as 1,300 people have recovered, while 240 cases remain active. The outbreak, traced to Vibrio cholerae, began spreading from June 9 and has severely impacted areas like Dharmasala, Badachana, and Vyasnagar.
A 14-member central team has confirmed the situation as an epidemic.
In response, the Odisha government has intensified food safety checks, initiated door-to-door medical outreach, and launched a ‘Stop Diarrhea’ campaign, inaugurated by Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling at Bhuban in Dhenkanal district.
The Health Minister assured that the state government is prioritizing preventive and curative measures to curb the outbreak.
