A heat advisory has been issued for mountain and valley communities through 8 p.m. Wednesday.
High temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach 77 near the coast, 80 to 83 inland, 87 to 91 in the western valleys, 92 to 97 near the foothills, 89 to 99 in the mountains and 110 to 115 in the deserts.
Patchy dense fog is possible near the coastal mesas, according to meteorologists. The marine layer will gradually increase in depth Wednesday through the weekend.
In areas under the threat of excessive heat, forecasters urged people to stay hydrated and seek shade when spending time outdoors through the middle of the week.
“If possible, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day (through 5 p.m.),” meteorologists said.
Low clouds and fog are expected to push into the valleys by week’s end, with near-average temperatures by Friday and below-average temperatures through the weekend.
