Iran has begun using submarines to launch missiles as part of its response against Israel’s assault, according to the Iranian ISNA news agency.
In a dangerous new development, Iranian state media announced Saturday morning that air defense systems were activated over the capital, Tehran, to counter a new Israeli attack.
Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, reported that air defense systems were put into service within minutes to deal with projectiles fired by Israel toward the capital.
According to Agence France-Presse, successive explosions were heard throughout Tehran, and red shooting stars were seen in the sky of the capital as a result of the air defenses’ actions against incoming targets.
In response, the Israeli military announced it would expand its operations, confirming in an official statement that it had targeted two Iranian Air Force air bases in Hamadan and Tabriz, located in the west of the country.
The statement explained that the Israeli strike completely destroyed the Tabriz base.
This escalation came just hours after Israel launched extensive strikes on Friday against Iranian military and nuclear facilities in and around Tehran, which were followed by an intense Iranian missile attack targeting Israeli territory, including drones and a ballistic missile barrage.
