ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A 25-year-old man was found guilty by a Monroe County jury for sexually abusing a 4-year-old child in August of 2024.
On Aug. 26, 2024, Rochester Police Officers went to a home for a report of sexual abuse of a child. When they got there, the parent of the child told the officers she saw Ilijah Kates sexually abusing her child and then locked him out and called the police.
Kates was arrested the same day. The victim was brought to a local hospital for treatment and for a sexual assault forensic examination.
Kates was convicted on charges of criminal sexual act in the first-degree and sexual abuse in the first-degree for two incidents of sexual abuse of a 4-year-old between July 1, 2024 and Aug. 26, 2024.
Kates is scheduled to be sentenced on July 17 and faces up to 32 years in prison.
