Kick off the summer at San Carlos Community Garden with concerts, kids’ nature play, and garden workshops for all ages.Summertime in San Diego is all about sunshine, togetherness, community spirit, and outdoor, family-friendly summer concerts.
That’s just the reason why the San Carlos Community Garden is thrilled to welcome the community to enjoy its Stuff the Pantry Summer Concert Series, presented by Aloha Solar & Electric. Stuff the Pantry – Music with a Mission
Kicking off on Friday, June 13, the San Carlos Community Garden’s summer concert series will open to the public at 5 p.m. for garden tours and early seating, with food served from Taco Love Food Truck starting at 5:30 p.m.
The garden will come alive from 6 – 8 p.m. with soulful sounds and uplifting melodies with original music performed by three of San Diego’s up-and-rising talents – Sharon Katz, Cara Comier and Alex Bergan.
Admission is free with a donation of non-perishable food items, which will go directly to the Good Shepherd Food Pantry of El Cajon. Cooking oil is especially in high demand. Pack a picnic, bring your lawn chairs or blankets. Friendly leashed pets are also welcome.
“I’m thrilled about this year’s summer concert series. San Diego is home to so many incredible singer-songwriters, and this season I’ve curated a whole new line-up of amazing talent,” said Sandé Lollis, an award-winning singer/songwriter and SCCG’s concert series curator. “The response in past years has been overwhelmingly positive, and I have every reason to believe this year will be no different.”“We are fortunate to collaborate for a third year in a row with Sandé Lollis and Aloha Solar & Electric on this summer concert series, added Gayle Mills,” SCCG’s Board Member and Co-Chair. “Sandé’s intimate connection to the San Diego music scene and Aloha Solar’s philanthropic support not only gives local artists a great platform to share their original music, it also helps SCCG carry out its mission of ‘Growing Community’ and allows the community to collaborate with us in combating food insecurity in our local area.”
Enroll Now: Playtime in the Garden
As part of its commitment to garden education and stewardship of the earth, San Carlos Community Garden will also be hosting its annual Playtime in the Garden, a joyful nature-based program for children ages 4-8 years old.
Held every Thursday from June 12 – Aug. 7, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. this program invites children to learn and play through storytelling, movement, music, gardening, and seasonal crafts.“Playtime in the Garden nurtures curiosity, empathy, and connection with the natural world—all in the beautiful setting of the garden,” said Mills. “The program is offered to our Garden Members, which is only $40 per year, and allows up to three children to attend at no additional cost. It’s a great value for families, all while supporting SCCG.”SCCG’s Monthly Education Workshops – Something for Everyone
