Jodie Sweetin is opening up about the special bond she shares with her longtime friend and Full House costar John Stamos.
Sweetin, 44, appeared on The Dory Jackson Interview series on July 15, where she discussed her and Stamos' sobriety journeys.
"John and I really, really connected in a lot of ways over [being sober]. He presented me with an award several years back for some of the work that I'd done," Sweetin shared, referring to the 2019 Experience, Strength and Hope Awards, where she was honored for her memoir unSweetined, which chronicles her journey from addiction to recovery.
"We have been there to celebrate each other's big successes and milestones," the Just Swipe actress added of the 62-year-old funny man, with whom she starred alongside in the beloved family sitcom — Stamos played Uncle Jesse Katsopolis, while Sweetin portrayed his niece, Stephanie Tanner. "And I am so glad that I got to be an example of attraction rather than promotion, which is a big principle in recovery."
That principle, Sweetin explained, is about letting your actions speak for themselves.
"Don't beat people over the head. Just be the result of all of your work, and chances are, people that are looking will find you," Sweetin said.

And they've both been open about their sobriety journeys, with Sweetin getting sober in 2011 and Stamos beginning his own sobriety journey in 2015.
Speaking about her decision to get sober, Sweetin told host Dory Jackson that it has been more than 10 years since her last drink.
"2011 was my last drink," Sweetin noted. "And it's been such a journey — the work I did in 12-step programs, the work I did in outside programs and therapy and also just kind of growing up and, and perspective, you know, all of those things," she explained.

"You get the opportunity to become a different person, and once you start actually liking that person, it becomes really hard to go back and continue destructive behavior," she continued. "You kind of go like, 'Oh, wait, hold on, I want to take care of this little person inside here and see what they’re capable of.’'And I've been really fortunate to be able to do that."
Like Sweetin, Stamos has been candid about the challenges he faced before finding sobriety. After a 2015 DUI arrest, the actor entered rehab and later opened up about his recovery journey, sharing the series of events that led him to seek help and make a lasting change.
"I went sort of down a wrong path," Stamos said during a 2016 apperance on The Howard Stern Show, revealing that the passing of his mother, with whom he was extremely close, sent him into a tailspin. "I lost myself. I lost my sense of discipline, which my dad taught me so well. More and more, I was just dipping into that dark place."
He noted that getting sober helped him begin rebuilding his life, and become more "even" and present, both for himself and those around him.
