Otega Oweh well remembers facing Mouhamed Dioubate when the latter was a member of the Alabama basketball program.
Now, the 2 are teammates, as Dioubate joined Kentucky out of the transfer portal after a pair of seasons with the Crimson Tide.
“I know what he brings, and I didn’t like playing against him,” Oweh, who declared for the NBA Draft but opted instead to return for another year with the Wildcats, said on Tuesday.
One memory that might be in the mind of Oweh is Feb. 22, when the Wildcats lost to the Tide 96-83. Though Dioubate scored only 4 points in that one, he broke out a “too small” celebration after drawing a foul on an and-one situation.
Now, Oweh and Dioubate are teammates, with Wildcats fans hoping that Dioubate can bring that same mindset to Lexington.
“I know he’s going to have that same effect on other people and other teams,” Oweh said.
Dioubate averaged 7.2 points and 5.9 in 37 games with the Crimson Tide in 2024-25, averaging 16.0 minutes per game.
He now joins a Kentucky roster that advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in Mark Pope’s first season. The Wildcats finished the year with a 24-12 record.
Favorite comment from Oweh today on his new teammates, particularly Mo Dioubate from Bama: "I know what he brings, and I didn't like playing against him… I know he's going to have that same effect on other people and other teams." t.co/DUMRKXOEvw
