    Bet of the day

Senegal to beat Ireland @ 6/5

Betting on international friendly matches has to be treated with a level of caution, but backing Senegal to beat Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Friday night does look to offer an excellent punting opportunity.

The Boys in Green avoided relegation in the Nations League with a playoff victory over Bulgaria, but it hasn’t been a blistering start under boss Heimir Hallgrimsson and there are a fair few players missing from the Ireland squad.

Callum O’Dowda, Jayson Molumby and Alan Browne have been left out to aid rest and recovery, while Seamus Coleman and Sammie Szmodics have withdrawn through injury.

Senegal will have to do without former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, but Ismaila Sarr, Nicolas Jackson and Pape Matar Sarr are all available for the Lions of Teranga.

Last year’s Africa Cup of Nations penalty shootout loss to Ivory Coast is the only defeat Pape Thiaw’s men have suffered in their last 20 matches, and Senegal haven’t lost a game in 90 minutes since September 2023.

That’s a pretty imposing record and the Lions of Teranga are unlikely to want to surrender it with a lackluster performance.  Motivation should be high for Senegal on Friday night and offers of 6/5 look to hold some value.

    Special of the day

North Macedonia or draw double chance v Belgium @ 21/10

Belgium are a nation on the downgrade and the Red Devils look opposable against a spirited and committed North Macedonia side.

There is still quality in the Belgium squad with Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Leandro Trossard available for selection, but you have to wonder if those experienced performers have much left to offer on the international stage.

Either way Rudi Garcia’s men have won only one of their last seven matches and that includes defeats to Israel and Ukraine.

North Macedonia appear to have a better chance of avoiding defeat in Skopje than the prices suggest.

    Long shot of the day

Cyprus to beat Bulgaria @ 9/2

Cyprus are not one of Europe’s leading lights, but Akis Mantzios’ men look too big to beat Bulgaria in an international friendly on Friday.

There is quality in the Cyprus squad with Ioannis Pittas and Grigoris Kastanos both decent performers, and while there isn’t the strength in depth to be a major force on the European scene, a clash with Bulgaria doesn’t look to overface Mantzios’ men.

The Lions have won only two of their last 11 matches and that’s a run which includes a 5-0 hammering by Northern Ireland and draws against Belarus and Luxembourg.

No player in the Bulgaria squad has scored more than three international goals and the Lions make little appeal at short prices against Cyprus.
