Aaron Rodgers Is Officially Joining This NFL Team

Most people associate Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers. Understandably so, since he spent 18 seasons playing with the team—including one that ended in a Super Bowl victory in 2011. But all good things come to an end, and in 2023, the four-time MVP was traded to the New York Jets. To say the least, his tenure with the Jets wasn't...great.

Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon early on in his first season, and he finished his second season with an unimpressive 5-12 record. The organization fired the coach and the GM in moves to rebuild, which led to the QB getting the chop as well.

For the first time in his NFL career, Rodgers found himself a free agent. After months of rumors, he officially has joined a new team: the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers announced the heavily-rumored acquisition in a press release, stating they had signed the legendary QB to "a one-year contract, pending a physical." Should Rodgers pass the physical, he's expected to hit the field as soon as Tuesday for minicamp training. Ironically, the Steelers are the team Rodgers and the Packers beat in Super Bowl XLV.

It's unclear what number Rodgers will wear in Pittsburgh, but it likely won't be the No. 12 he wore in Green Bay. While not officially retired, no Steeler has worn No. 12 since 1983 in reverence for quarterback Terry Bradshaw (not to be confused with Carrie Bradshaw). Most likely, he'll continue wearing the No. 8 he wore during his two seasons with the Jets.

Reactions to Rodgers' signing have been mixed. One satisfied fan tweeted, "They might win a playoff game finally." On the other hand, another wasn't so optimistic. "We do not want this old drama seeking dinosaur on the team," they wrote.

Rodgers has something to prove after his less-than-stellar past season with the Jets. At 41, he likely doesn't have that many seasons left. But at 47, Tom Brady keeps going in and out of retirement, so maybe Rodgers has the best years of his career ahead of him.
