Chicago police have found the body of a 26-year-old woman who went missing after the car she was riding in plunged into the Little Calumet River Tuesday.

According to authorities, the discovery was made near the 13000 block of South Indiana at approximately 10:48 a.m. Wednesday, more than 24 hours after the woman had been reported missing.

    According to her family, 26-year-old Raphelle Howard was in a vehicle that left the roadway along South Indiana on Tuesday morning. That vehicle plunged through a guardrail and into the river, according to police.

    24-year-old Trumayne Sanders was pulled from the vehicle after the crash, and he was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

    Three other individuals who were in the car at the time of the crash were able to escape and get to shore, police said.

    A search was undertaken after the crash for Howard’s whereabouts according to police, and she was found just before 11 a.m. Wednesday. She was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

    Area One detectives are investigating the cause of the crash.
