Virat Kohli announced his retirement from the red-ball format one month ago, and his fortunes changed after his Test retirement as he lifted his maiden IPL trophy with Royal Challengers Bangalore and also racked up 657 runs in the season.
Kohli is just 36 years old, and he has the ability and fitness to play the longest format for a couple of years, but he bid goodbye to his favourite format. Former Australian star Mark Taylor revealed that something was unusual with Kohli in his last tour to Australia.

Former Australia skipper Mark Taylor revealed that the last time Kohli visited Australia for the Test series, he was looking angry, and Taylor had never seen such a version of Kohli. Taylor stated that Kohli's retirement was triggered by anger.
"Last year, I saw a different Virat Kohli [in Australia]. An angry one. And I have never seen an angry Virat Kohli. I have seen a very highly competitive Kohli, and I love that about him. I always saw the gentleman. Last year I saw a different Kohli and I said a month ago that it is time for him to retire. And he did. Because once you get angry, you've got to get out. And I think he realised that. If you start getting angry, you are gone," Taylor said on the LiSTNR Sport podcast.
Virat Kohli’s last inning in Australia
When Kohli was batting in the second innings of the fifth Test match against Australia, he got dismissed in the same manner by nicking himself out caught behind for the record eighth time in the Test series.
Kohli was frustrated with his dismissal and thrashed his bat onto his pads and let out a huge scream. Kohli’s last Australia tour exposed his vulnerability outside off-stump and cast doubts on his mind.
Mark Taylor’s meeting with Kohli
Mark Taylor recalled an instance with Kohli to prove his point about how much Kohli respected Test cricket. Taylor interviewed Kohli in 2014, when Kohli came out as skipper for the first time at the Adelaide Oval.
Taylor had 25 minutes to interview Kohli, but the PA system kicked in around the ground and with mismanagement, Taylor only asked two to three questions, and the time was up. Then Kohli asked him, "Have you finished the interview?" Taylor replied No, "I have some questions left" and Kohli gave him respect and told him to finish the interview and talked about his love for Test cricket.
