Puri: Odisha Vigilance apprehended Manoj Mohanty, Section Officer in the office of the Sub-Divisional Veterinary Officer (SDVO), Puri, on Thursday for accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000.
The arrest was made while Mohanty was caught red-handed demanding and accepting the bribe from a staffer of Rench, Nimapara Block, under the SDVO’s jurisdiction.
The bribe was demanded to facilitate the processing of an Electric Vehicle (EV) advance, which had already been sanctioned by the government for the complainant and three other staffers. Despite the sanctioned amount, Mohanty allegedly delayed the process and demanded Rs 6,000 to release the funds. Frustrated by the delay, the complainant reported the matter to the Odisha Vigilance authorities, who set up a trap to catch Mohanty in the act.
The entire bribe amount of Rs 6,000 was recovered from Mohanty’s possession and seized by the Vigilance team. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Mohanty to investigate potential disproportionate assets (DA).
A case has been registered against Mohanty at Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station under Case No. 10/2025, invoking Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
