Billy Joel missed the premiere of his documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on Wednesday, June 4.
The notable absence comes days after the singer-songwriter canceled all his upcoming tour dates and revealed his diagnosis of a rare brain condition. Joel has normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), which causes excess cerebrospinal fluid build up in the brain ventricles.

The condition has caused issues with Joel's hearing, vision, and balance, for which he is currently undergoing "specific" physical therapy. He is currently refraining from performances under advice from his doctor.
"He is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health." read a statement posted to Joel's Instagram account. "I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,"Billy Joel: And So It Goes follows the Piano Man singer from his upbringing in Long Island through international superstardom and features never-before-seen performances, home movies, and in-depth one-on-one interviews.
According to Warner Bros. Discovery, the two part series is "an expansive portrait of the life and music of Billy Joel, exploring the love, loss, and personal struggles that fuel his songwriting."
While the musician wasn't at the Beacon Theatre premiere, plenty of A-list stars still showed up in support. Tom Hanks, who is an executive producer of the documentary, Whoopi Goldberg, Robert De Niro, and Mariska Hargitay were among some of the names who attended the screening.
The two-part documentary will debut on HBO and will be available to stream on Max this summer.
