Russia “will have to respond” to Ukraine’s recent devastating drone attacks, Vladimir Putin told has told Donald Trump after a phone call between the two leaders.
Posting on Truth Social after the conversation, Trump said: “We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes, by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides. It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace.
“President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.”
Earlier this week, Kyiv undertook some of its most elaborate attacks since Russia’s full-scale invasion three years ago.
On Sunday, more than 100 Ukrainian drones struck air bases deep inside Russia, targeting dozens of nuclear-capable long-range bombers, according to Ukraine.
On Tuesday, it targeted the Kerch bridge linking occupied Crimea to the Russian mainland with an underwater attack.
The US president said his phone call with Putin lasted “approximately one hour and 15 minutes” and also touched on Iran “and the fact that time is running out on Iran’s decision pertaining to nuclear weapons”.
