The SEC was widely regarded as the nation’s best college baseball conference during the 2025 regular season.
The league’s overall strength led to a staggering 13 bids for SEC teams in this year’s NCAA Tournament. However, after the Regional round was completed on Monday, just 4 teams remain from the original group of participants.
It was a disappointing week for the SEC, as 4 hosts failed to win their own regional. The list of teams going home early includes Vanderbilt and Texas, which were awarded the top-overall seeds by the selection committee entering the NCAA Tournament. Georgia and Ole Miss were the other two hosts who failed to reach a Super Regional.
Alabama, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Florida also were ousted from their respective regionals.
The only SEC teams with a chance to get to Omaha are Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas and LSU. Of that group, Auburn, Arkansas and LSU will all be hosting. Tennessee will travel to the Fayetteville Super Regional. That means a maximum of 3 SEC teams will be able to reach the College World Series this season.
Over at BetMGM, LSU (+320) is currently the betting favorite to win the College World Series. Arkansas isn’t far behind at +375. Tennessee is tied for 3rd in the odds at +600 while Auburn is down at +1000.
Here’s a sampling of the reaction to the SEC’s lackluster weekend from fans and media:
SHOCKER: @SEC sets ??? ?????? for ???? teams ?????????? in the opening weekend of NCAA Baseball Tournament. 9 of the 13 teams they sent to the post season were sent packing. It truly just meant less in regionals. pic.twitter.com/DcJ5kaHb2n
— TJ Pittinger (@TJ_Pittinger) June 3, 202513 SEC schools made the 2025 NCAA Baseball Bracket…Only four are advancing to the Super Regional round. Only half of the regional hosts escaped elimination and none of the at large bids found a way into the Supers. pic.twitter.com/yzpim1f2WA
— CJ Vogel (@CJVogel_OTF) June 3, 2025SEC baseball might be more overrated than SEC football.
— Ohio’s Tate (@BarstoolTate) June 3, 2025How do you feel about these SEC baseball teams? pic.twitter.com/fySDtkBA4m
— Zac Blackerby (@Zblackerby) June 3, 2025Of the 16 members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), 13 of them (81%!) received a berth last week in the NCAA Baseball Championship tournament – 8 of them as regional hosts. As of this moment, 9 of those 13 teams have been eliminated, and one is presently on life support. ? pic.twitter.com/hGbZxUsAsN

— NoleGIFs (@NoleGIFs) June 2, 2025WAKE UP! The SEC can't keep getting away with this.7 hosts lost their region in the College Baseball Tourney- 4 of them were from the SEC. The other 30 conferences combined had three. Similar thing happened during March Madness When will everyone say enough is enough?! pic.twitter.com/X5pIhtQ0J6

— BuckeyeNation (@buckeyefbnation) June 3, 2025SEC baseball = FRAUDULENT
— Tyler S (@tsaundry13) June 3, 2025Not a college baseball guy. Surely the SEC isn’t underperforming in ANOTHER tournament they got preferential treatment from a selection committee in, right? Because that would be the 3rd time in 3 sports this year.
— WBR (@W_B_Rick) June 3, 2025Ok now that regionals are over…Not the strongest we've seen from the SEC, clearly, and if you'd like to dunk on the league that's more than fair, they certainly have no qualms about taking victory laps. But, poor postseason don't equate undeserving teams.
— SEC Baseball (@SECbaseball) June 3, 2025At what point do we stop letting them get away with this every post season?Number 1 and 2 should never fail to make it out of a regional. And number 1 has failed in both softball and baseball The SEC propaganda needs to die pic.twitter.com/1hJJOCNTiR
