One of the breakout stars from Beyond the Gates, Lauren Buglioli who plays fan-favorite Vanessa McBride, has taken to social media to share a surprising full-circle moment.
Buglioli shared that eight years ago she starred as Sister Mary in a rendition of DISASTER! The Musical, where she sang “Never Can Say Goodbye,” which was written by her future Beyond The Gates co-star Clifton Davis!

The actress shared the story in her caption stating, “8 years ago I had left NYC and the entertainment business, was teaching preschool and was blessed with the opportunity to play Sister Mary in @jackplotnick & @sethrudetsky’s “DISASTER! The Musical” at the @strazcenter. I sang “Never Can Say Goodbye” written by the incomparable, @thecliftondavis (I learned this watching the #beyondthegates@entertainmenttonight special ?). Today, when filming a scene of @beyondthegatescbs alongside Clifton, I was reminded of how wild life is, and how synchronicities and magic are there when you look for them. And while the road is winding… and I never could have anticipated where life might take me… I’ve seen that the journey is a faith walk with some incredible God winks along the way. Won’t. He. Do. Beyond The Gates, developed and produced by CBS Studios / NAACP venture in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter and Gamble, is the ground-breaking first hour long black soap opera to premiere in daytime. The creation is the brainchild of award-winning showrunner Michele Val Jean and Sheila Ducksworth, and the first new soap opera to premiere since NBC debuted Passions back in 1999.
Beyond the Gates was renewed for a second season, confirming that the series will run throughout 2026.
Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS at 2 p.m. ET, and streams weekdays on Paramount+.
