CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity was reported near Charlotte East Language Academy's drop-off area Monday morning.
The principal of CELA, located at 6108 Wilora Lake Road, sent a message to families Monday afternoon informing them of the incident.
“We want to inform you that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity occurred near our school’s drop-off line earlier today,” said Principal Lang in the message. “We understand that this may cause concern within our community.”
The statement went on to reassure families that the school remains “a safe, supportive, and welcoming space for every child.”
At this time, it's unclear what exactly happened during ICE's presence near the school.
Queen City News has reached out to ICE representatives to find out whether any arrests were made, how many people may have been taken into custody, and what the charges might be, if any. Those details have not yet been confirmed, and we are waiting to hear back.
CMS clarified that they are not able to confirm or comment on any potential arrests.
