The Anaheim Ducks are expected to hire Quenneville as their next head coach, Sportsnet can confirm.
Quenneville has not coached in the NHL since 2021, when he was with the Florida Panthers. The native of Windsor, Ont., resigned from his position after meeting with commissioner Gary Bettman about his role in the Chicago Blackhawks’ sexual abuse scandal that took place in 2010.
The NHL reinstated Quenneville on July 1, 2024 along with former Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman, who was then hired by the Edmonton Oilers.
The 66-year-old takes over after the Ducks fired Greg Cronin, who led the team to a sixth-place finish in the Pacific Division with a 35-37-10 record. Anaheim has not made it to the playoffs the past seven seasons.
Quenneville won three Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks and has 969 victories, second-most in NHL history. He also won the Jack Adams Trophy as coach of the year in 2000 with the St. Louis Blues.
