Gujarat Titans, on Friday (May 2), thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 38 runs to return to winning ways in the ongoing IPL 2025. The win was GT's 7th of the season and has all but ensured a place for them in the playoffs, while SRH's chances are hanging by a thread now.
Set a target of 225 runs, the Hyderabad-based outfit hardly looked in contention to chase down the total. They eventually finished their innings on 186/6. Barring opener Abhishek Sharma, no other SRH batsman could play an impactful knock with the bat.
Abhishek waged a lone battle and scored 74 runs off 41 balls with the help of 4 fours and 6 sixes. Barring Abhishek, no other Sunrisers Hyderabad batter could even reach the 30-run mark. For GT, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna picked up 2 wickets each.

Earlier in the game, GT rode on half-centuries from their captain, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler to post a big total of 224/6 in the allotted 20 overs. Asked to bat first, the 2022 IPL winners were off to a flying start.
Gill and Sai Sudharsan added 87 runs off just 41 balls for the first wicket. Zeeshan Ansari broke the stand by dismissing Sudharsan for 48. Gill, on the other hand, went on to complete his fifty and shared a 62-run stand with Buttler for the second wicket.
The Gujarat Titans captain departed after scoring 76 runs off 38 balls with the help of 10 fours and 2 sixes. After Gill's departure, Buttler went on to complete his fifty as well and took the score past the 200-run mark. The former England captain scored 64 off 37 balls. For SRH, Jaydev Unadkat picked up 3 wickets for 35 runs.

The defeat means Sunrisers Hyderabad only have 3 wins from 10 games. With four more league games remaining, they can win a maximum of 7 games. While SRH are still in contention for the playoffs, their fate is no more in their hands.
