Light rain is expected to sprinkle over Southern California on Saturday, April 26, but a light, quick shower will make way for mostly dry conditions by the end of the weekend, National Weather Service forecasters said Friday.
A storm descending from northern California was expected to hit Los Angeles County by Saturday morning, bringing about a quarter-inch of rain to most areas until about 1 or 2 p.m., followed by possible scattered showers, Meteorologist Mike Wofford said.
Orange County and the Inland Empire would be hit later, with the possibility of some drizzle in the morning before an anticipated tenth-of-an-inch of rain during the afternoon, Meteorologist Casey Oswant said.
“There is a chance for thunderstorms, so if those develop, those specific areas will see higher rainfall,” Oswant said. “We’re seeing about a 10% chance of that.”
Snow is possible down to about 5,000 feet in the mountains, with forecasters expecting most mountain areas in Southern California to see about an inch. Some peaks in the San Gabriel Mountains could see up to five inches of snow, Oswant said.
The system was expected to move east, with only a slight possibility of additional rainfall on Sunday morning before dry conditions return, Wofford said.
“There’s a chance that we could see a stray shower or two in the morning,” Wofford said, “but I think by noon, we should be in the clear and mostly sunny.”
