CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are conducting an internal investigation on one of their own after an officer was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence, police say.
CMPD Officer Stephen Brown was arrested on April 21 by the Clover Police Department in York, S.C. He was charged with DUI.
Police say he was off duty at the time of his arrest.
Brown is currently on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Brown was hired on October 16, 2006 and was assigned to the Airport Division.
“Wearing the badge represents a commitment to integrity, responsibility and service—on duty or off. I take that responsibility personally and expect every member of this department to do the same. When an officer violates that trust, it’s a betrayal of the profession. We will hold our own accountable," said Chief Jennings.
