CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – There was another delay Monday in the trial for Emanuel Bedford after not enough jurors showed up for the jury selection process. He’s been charged with kidnapping and killing Pageland native Deidre Reid in 2021.
Reid’s family was extremely disappointed walking out of the courthouse Monday afternoon as they now must wait until June to get another step closer to closure.
September 2021 was the last time Reid was seen in Pageland. She was headed to take her boyfriend, Emanuel Bedford, to the Greyhound bus station in Charlotte. He was supposedly headed back home to Augusta, Georgia.

Redmond said the defense refused to move forward without an alternate juror. He said this has never happened in his 20-plus-year career.
“I’m still processing it, but my main concern is for the family,” Redmond said. “They were ready for this case to be tried this week, and regardless of how I feel right now, I can’t even imagine how they’re feeling. My heart goes out to them.”

“We rely on the citizens to show up for jury duty,” Redmond said. “That did not happen today. It is very disappointing to us that it didn’t happen, but hopefully moving forward, we won’t have to run into this issue again.”
The trial has been postponed until June 16. The judge asked for 100 more jurors to be ordered to show up, bringing the total to 250 that will have been summoned for this case.
