DAVIDSON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- An early morning crash has taken the life of a Mooresville man, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The incident happened around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, on Interstate 77 southbound between Langtree Road and Griffith Street.
Troopers say a 2021 Hyundai Kona was sitting sideways in the road with no lights on due to a previous crash when a 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer driving south crashed into the Hyundai.
NCDOT NCDOTThe Hyundai's driver, 26-year-old Justyn Jack Jenkins of Mooresville, died from his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
Investigators say speed and impairment did not lead to the crash. No charges will be filed.
Following the crash, two of three southbound lanes were closed for about three hours but have since reopened.
