Announcing his decision to resign, Stead said that he intended to now step away from coaching life and think about his future. He said that although he has coaching left in him, he would not want to be an all-format coach. He added that he had accomplished his mission of finishing the season on a high-note with an inexperienced team.
“The past six to seven months has been particularly busy with relatively non-stop cricket action since September. I now want to evaluate my options but still feel I have coaching left in me, albeit not as head coach across all formats,” Stead said.
Will Stead reapply for Test coach?
When asked if he would reapply for the position of Test coach, Stead said that he would have to consult his family first. He added that he could probably decide on that only by next month.
“The next month will give me the opportunity to discuss the situation more with my wife, family and others. I’ll be in a better position to know whether I want to reapply for the Test coaching position after this time of reflection,” Stead added.
Split coaching next?
“At the moment we haven’t any strong preference for either a split-coaching role or a sole appointment who covers all three formats, and we’re unlikely to be clearer on that until we see who’s putting their name forward,” New Zealand Cricket’s chief high performance officer Bryan Stronach said.
