(KRON) -- A Concord Police Department officer fired their weapon during a foot chase with a suspect Thursday night, authorities said.
The shooting stemmed from a traffic stop at 10:11 p.m. near Clayton Road and Ellis Street. The driver of the stopped car, identified as a 37-year-old Richmond man, got out and ran, according to police.
During the chase, a police shooting occurred. Authorities did not say as of Friday morning what escalated the situation into a shooting or whether the suspect fired a gun.
The driver was not struck in the shooting, police said. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office helicopter and K-9 unit assisted in taking the suspect into custody in the area of Clayton Road and Sutter Street.
The Richmond man had a firearm in his possession during the arrest, according to authorities.
