JOEL Embiid suffered yet another injury setback which left fans fearing the worst.
The 31-year-old was already ruled out for the remainder of the season.
His initial diagnosis came from Philadelphia 76ers team doctors in February.
But the former Most Valuable Player will undergo surgery next week, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
Embiid will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in a bid to solve his problems.
He has played just 19 times this season while battling the injury.
Team officials met with doctors to try and figure out the best route forward for Embiid.
And he will be assessed again 12 weeks after surgery to determine a comeback timeline.
But NBA fans fear that Embiid might never be able to recover from the procedure.
One commented, “He’s done. Never be the same. Hopefully he can fully recover.”
Another said, “Big men and knee issues don’t tend to heal fully.”
A third posted, “Prayers up & hope he can come back next year fully healthy.”
While a fourth said, “Embiid’s career is over, he will never be the same.
“It’s a shame because he was on the same tier as Jokic when fully healthy.”
And one more claimed, “He needs to retire at this point.”
Embiid is a seven-time NBA All-Star and has been one of the most dominant centers in the league over the past decade.
He was selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.
Embiid won gold with USA at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games last summer.
The 31-year-old was named MVP in 2023 after his second straight year as scoring champion.
Embiid signed a three-year contract extension in November worth a mammoth $193 million.
That will take him through to the end of the 2028-2029 season, when he will be 33 years old.
He has already collected $265 million during his career and will pass $300 million this year.
