With tickets going on sale on Wednesday, organizers of the Rady Children’s Invitational basketball tournament Monday announced the four-team event will change venues to the University of San Diego this year.
The event, scheduled for Nov. 27-28, will now take place in USD’s Jenny Craig Pavilion. It was previously held at LionTree Arena on the campus of UC San Diego.
“Due to overwhelming demand — last year’s event sold out two months in advance — we needed a larger venue to accommodate our growing fan base,” Sports San Diego CEO Mark Neville said. “We’re incredibly grateful to UC San Diego for being an amazing partner in our first two years of the Rady Children’s Invitational.
“Our goal has always been to bring top college basketball teams to our event, and this year’s lineup continues that tradition.”
Three of the four teams have been confirmed for the tournament, led by Number 1 Seed and Final Four team the Florida Gators. The Providence Friars and Wisconsin Badgers have also committed. The fourth team will be announced soon, event organizers said.
“We’re excited to host the Rady Children’s Invitational at the University of San Diego and welcome some of the top college basketball programs in the country to our beautiful campus,” said Kimya Massey, associate vice president and executive director of athletics at USD.
“This event is a great opportunity to showcase the Jenny Craig Pavilion as a premier venue and highlight everything that makes USD such a special place. We appreciate our partnership with Sports San Diego and their commitment to bringing high-level basketball to this city.”
Purdue University won the 2024 edition of the Rady Children’s Invitational, besting Ole Miss in a nailbiter, 80-78. Brigham Young University beat North Carolina State in the third-place game. Oklahoma won the inaugural tournament in 2023 over University of Southern California, with Iowa beating Seton Hall in the third-place matchup.
“We’re thrilled that the Rady Children’s Invitational continues to draw top college programs from across the country to our region, putting San Diego in the national spotlight,” said Stephen Jennings, executive vice president and chief development and external affairs officer for Rady Children’s Health. “Sports like basketball have the incredible ability to unite families, and that’s the heart of what we stand for at Rady Children’s.”
Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, April 2, at www.RadyChildrensInvitational.com. Two-day pass prices range from $95 to $155, with each day featuring two games. For every ticket sold, $5 will be donated to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.
All tournament games will air nationally on FOX or FS1.
