Johni Broome was having a game for the ages on Sunday, when he left with an injury that had all of Auburn nation in panic. He went up to block a shot, and appeared to injure both his knee and his arm. He walked off the floor to the bench, and then ended up going to the locker room. As he was walking off the floor, he told Bruce Pearl he couldn’t go, and his teammates that he was done.
When he left the court, there wasn’t a ton of optimism that he would be back in this game, let alone moving forward. However, after getting some X-rays, he was able to come back as those tests came out negative. Just 2 possessions in to his return, he buried a 3, helping the Tigers advance to the Final Four with a 70-64 victory against Michigan State.
Broome finished the game with 25 points and 14 rebounds, showing once again why he deserves to be in conversation for National Player of the Year. After the game, CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson asked Broome if he would be ready next weekend.
“I will be, but all glory to God,” Broome told Wolfson.
