The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) wants a 17km line from Bhondsi to Gurgaon Railway Station to decongest Sohna Road and National Highway 8, and a 13.6km line between Golf Course Extension Road and Sector 5 to connect new business districts with old residential Gurgaon, Times of India reports.
The shorter line will intersect with the Yellow line of the Delhi metro at Millennium City Centre Station, Gurgaon, where the Yellow Line terminates.
Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) mobility adviser Yash Sachdeva told Hindustan Times that the two new lines were part of the city’s plan for a larger metro network across the city by 2031.
“These two routes cover the most densely populated areas of the city, along with key business districts,” he said.
“A large number of people will be connected once these routes become operational.”
He added that the two new routes would eventually link up with the Delhi Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) now being built.
The RRTS is a 164km semi-high-speed rail corridor linking Delhi, Gurgaon, Rewari, Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror, and Alwar.
