High school sports results (Tuesday-Wednesday): Windsor rolls to a third consecutive baseball win

Baseball

Dayspring Christian 6, Platte Valley 3, in Kersey: Despite each team having seven hits, Dayspring Christian was a little more opportunistic with its scoring opportunities to claim this nonleague win. Eagles seniors Logan Vaniddekinge and Josiah Rodriguez each had two RBI. Vaniddekinge had two doubles. Dayspring’s pitching duo of sophomore Owen Steward and senior Gage Davis combined to allow two earned runs on seven hits, striking out 12 and walking none. Senior Nick Silvas led Platte Valley, hitting 1 for 3 with a triple and two RBI. The Eagles improved to 3-1 overall. The Broncos fell to 2-2.

Windsor 11, Dakota Ridge 1, 6 inn., in Windsor: Windsor kept rolling, easily securing this nonconference win to claim its third consecutive game and improve to 5-1 overall. The Wizards out-hit Dakota Ridge 11-1 and led 9-0 after a seven-run bottom of the third inning. Senior Mason Jordan paced Windsor’s offense, hitting 1 for 1 with three RBI and a run. Senior Ethan Fillinger hit 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs. On the mound, Fillinger and fellow senior Izaak Haro combined to allow no earned runs on one hit, striking out six and walking six.

    Rocky Mountain 18, Greeley West 1, 4 inn., in Fort Collins: Greeley West struggled mightily against this perennial power. Already leading 5-1, Rocky Mountain tacked on 13 more runs in the bottom of the third. The Lobos out-hit the Spartans 12-4. Freshman Drew Briceno drove in the Spartans’ only run on 1-for-1 hitting. Greeley West fell to 4-4 overall, 0-1 in Class 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

    Bennett 7, Valley 5, in Gilcrest: Valley’s struggles continued, as the Vikings suffered their third consecutive loss and dropped to 1-4 overall. Bennett scored the game’s first six runs, as Valley tried to rally late but fell just short. Junior Ivan Saenz led the Vikings, hitting 1 for 3 with two RBI, one run and a double.

    Estes Park 14, Weld Central 0, 5 inn., in Estes Park: Weld Central struggled mightily in this nonleague affair. Estes Park out-hit the Rebels 7-2 and had just two errors, compared to eight for Weld Central. Senior Marcello Rossi and freshman Oliver Park each had a hit for the Rebels. Weld Central fell to 3-4 overall.

    Otis 25, Briggsdale 3, 3 inn., in Briggsdale: Briggsdale had no answers for Otis’s offense in this nonleague affair. Otis out-hit the Falcons 10-0 and led 9-1 after just one inning. Briggsdale fell to 1-1 overall.

    Girls golf

    Resurrection Christian places first, in Fort Morgan: Resurrection Christian shot a 17-over-par 239 to comfortably place first in the eight-team Fort Morgan Invitational West meet at Quail Dunes Golf Course. Sterling was second, shooting a 301. Roosevelt placed seventh (370).

    Resurrection Christian had the top 3 golfers, individually. Senior Brooke May led the field, shooting a 3-over-par 77. She was well-complemented on the Cougars team by junior Karina Garcia (2nd, 79), junior Avery Stockslager (3rd, 83) and sophomore Brooklyn Diepersloot (23rd, 120).

    Junior Shaylee Ramirez (15th, 113) represented Roosevelt, as did junior Ashleigh Sassano (26th, 128), freshman Hailey Thompson (27th, 129) and freshman Aza Sokoll (32nd, 133).

    Windsor finishes third, in Fort Collins: Windsor shot a 104-over-par 388 to finish third behind Fossil Ridge’s varsity (1st, 321) and junior varsity (2nd, 365) squads during the seven-team Northern Conference Match No. 2  at Collindale Golf Course.

    Sophomore McKenna Hersh paced the Wizards, shooting an 88 and placing seventh overall. She was joined on the team by junior Ruth Stephens (tied-13th, 96), junior Karis Reichardt (tied-13th, 96), junior Addyson Heward (19th, 108) and freshman Teagan Hersh (30th, 137).

    Fossil Ridge senior Ellie Barry topped the individual standings, carding a 4-over-par 75.

    Boys lacrosse

    Poudre School District 8, Resurrection Christian 6, in Fort Collins: Resurrection Christian saw its undefeated start to the season come to an end in this tightly contested nonleague affair. The two teams traded leads early, with Poudre School District scoring five unanswered goals in the second quarter to lead 5-2 at halftime. Sophomore Jacob Adams and senior Parker Jordan had two goals apiece for the Cougars. Resurrection Christian fell to 3-1 on the young season.

    Girls soccer

    Greeley West 3, Weld Central 0, in Keenesburg: Greeley West scored one goal in the first half and tacked on two more in the second half to control this nonconference match. The Spartans improved to 2-2-1, while Weld Central fell to 2-4.

    Valley 3, Union Colony 0, in Gilcrest: Sophomore Valeria Arellano had two goals, while senior Azul Mendoza had one goal, for Valley, as the Vikings also kept Union Colony from getting any offense going. Valley improved to 2-3 overall, while Union Colony fell to 0-2 overall.

    Silver Creek 3, Northridge 1, in Longmont: Northridge wasn’t quite able to produce enough offense in this tightly contested nonleague affair. The match was tied at 1 at halftime before Silver Creek scored a pair of unanswered goals in the second half. The Grizzlies fell to 2-1 overall.

    Boys swimming and diving

    Fort Collins 116, Windsor 64, in Windsor: Windsor placed first in just one of 12 events in this conference dual. Wizards Sophomore Noah Abram won one-meter diving with a score of 228.15. Windsor fell to 0-1 overall, 0-1 in conference duals.

    Girls tennis

    Fort Lupton 3, Arvada 3, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton won one of three singles matches and two of three doubles matches to tie this nonleague dual. Bluedevils junior Dahlila Tijerina defeated senior Miriam Sanchez 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 singles. Fort Lupton moved its dual record to 2-1-1 overall.

    Mountain View 4, Greeley Central 3, in Loveland: Greeley Central played in its most tightly contested dual of the season, dropping all three singles matches but winning three of four doubles matches. Wildcats junior Catie Andrews and senior Holly Heaston secured a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Greeley Central fell to 0-3 overall, 0-2 in league duals.

    Fossil Ridge 7, Greeley West 0, in Fort Collins: Greeley West was unable to win a match in this challenging conference dual. In the most tightly contested match, Spartans sophomores Sophie Herold and Hayden Atchley fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to seniors Jess Kozlowski and Sam Udupa. Greeley West dropped to 3-2 overall, 1-2 in conference duals.

    Timnath 5, Northridge 2, in Greeley: Northridge was unable to open its conference schedule with a win, falling to 0-3 overall, 0-1 in league duals.

    Boys volleyball

    Eagle Ridge Academy 3, Fort Lupton 2, in Brighton: Fort Lupton fell just short of securing a league win, falling 25-27, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-5. Senior Sebastian Gallegos had a big outing for the Bluedevils, recording 26 kills, two aces, six blocks and 28 digs. Fort Lupton fell to 1-6 overall, 1-2 in 4A Northern Conference play.

    Baseball

    Eaton 12, Jefferson Academy 2, 6 inn., in Eaton: Eaton remained flawless on the season, improving to 5-0 overall. The Reds out-hit Jefferson Academy 12-4. Senior Cooper Nider led a balanced Eaton offense, hitting 1 for 2 with two RBI, two runs and a triple. Junior Shane Welle went 2 for 3 with two runs, one RBI and a double. The pitching duo of senior Cash Rinker and junior Austin Edelmon combined to allow no earned runs on four hits, striking out 12 and walking one.

    Fort Lupton 23, Platte Canyon 22, in Fort Lupton: With a final outcome that more closely resembled a football score, Fort Lupton prevailed in this slugfest to improve to 3-0 overall, 1-0 in 3A/2A Frontier League play. After the Bluedevils had taken a 9-1 lead, Platte Canyon suddenly stormed ahead, 12-9, with 11 runs in the top of the third. Fort Lupton edged right back ahead, 13-12, with four runs in the bottom of the third, and the two teams traded runs the rest of the game. Freshman Jesus Beltran led the Bluedevils, hitting 1 for 6 with five RBI and a run. Senior Javier Ortiz went 3 for 3 with six runs, two RBI and two triples.

    Wellington 14, Northridge 4, 5 inn., in Greeley: Northridge briefly tied the game at 3 in the first inning, but Wellington took complete control with eight runs in the top of the third. The Eagles out-hit the Grizzlies 18-6. Northridge fell to 0-7 overall, 0-2 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play.

    Girls soccer

    Greeley West 5, Roosevelt 0, in Greeley: Greeley West secured its second dominant shutout victory in as many days to improve to 3-2-1 overall. The Spartans were red hot from the get-go, leading 4-0 in the first half. Roosevelt fell to 1-3 overall.

    Jefferson 2, Fort Lupton 1, in Edgewater: Fort Lupton fell just short in this league nail-biter, dropping to 1-4 overall, 1-1 in 3A/2A Frontier League play. The match was tied at 1 at halftime before Jefferson scored the winning goal in the second half.

    Track and field

    Fort Lupton, Roosevelt compete, in Berthoud: Roosevelt and Fort Lupton were among the eight-team field during the NoCo-Berthoud Qualifier. Roosevelt senior Taegan Olson was among the standouts, placing first in the girls 100 hurdles (16.44) and in girls pole vault (13′). Her sophomore teammate Kylie Baca placed first in the girls 100 (12.83). Rough Riders senior Jayden Nohr won the boys 100 (11.16) and long jump (22′ 6.5″).

    Roosevelt junior Makaylee Meyer was first in the girls 300 hurdles (53.21). Rough Riders junior Maelynn Johnson was first in the girls 1,600 (5:57.67). Roosevelt freshman David Roberts won the boys 3,200 (10:02.17).

    The Rough Riders team of Baca, Olson, junior Braelyn Bailey and senior Tanner Parham won the girls 400 relay (50.64). Bailey also won the girls high jump (5′ 6″) and long jump (17′ 1″).

    Roosevelt’s quartet of Nohr, senior Gabe Santos, freshman Houston Howell and junior Evan Hays won the boys 400 relay (43.06). Rough Riders sophomore Janaya Johnson won girls triple jump (35′ 5″). Roosevelt sophomore Owen Hays won boys triple jump (41′ 7.5″).

    Rough Riders junior Haiden Chambers won girls discus (100′ 0.5″). Roosevelt junior Joseph Wooldridge won boys shot put (44′ 11″). Fort Lupton sophomore Said Martinez won the mixed 100 unified race (12.84). Rough Riders senior Isaiah Sprague won the mixed 200 unified race (28.03).

    Boys volleyball

    Poudre 3, Greeley Central 0, in Greeley: Greeley Central was unable to pick up a set in this nonconference match, falling 25-17, 25-23, 25-16. Despite the loss, Wildcats senior Jackson Gollhofer had five kills, one ace and a block. Greeley Central fell to 2-4 overall.
