Two young passengers were killed in a crash near the Mendocino Coast Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, a 19-year-old Gualala man was driving a 2016 Toyota northbound on the Ten Mile Cutoff Road around 8:50 a.m. March 24, near the city of Point Arena.
When the vehicle was just north of Schooner Gulch Road, the CHP reports, “it veered off the roadway and and collided with a tree, resulting in the loss of two young lives. Emergency responders arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but both victims succumbed to their injuries on-scene.”
The passengers who were killed were identified only as a 16-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl, both residents of Gualala, and the CHP adds that “our deepest condolences go out to their loved ones during this difficult time.”
The CHP notes that the crash is still under investigation, but that “alcohol and/or drugs impairment is not believed to be a factor in this collision.”
