ANSON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A young girl is dead and a man is in critical condition after an apparent murder-attempted suicide in Anson County, according to the NC State Bureau of Investigation.
Around 3 a.m. on Monday, deputies with the Anson County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from a woman who said her young daughter and vehicle were taken from her residence in Polkton, reportedly by the girl's father.
A "be on the lookout" was also issued for the vehicle, a Jeep Liberty, officials said. Around 8 a.m., deputies saw the vehicle in Anson County and started to pursue it. A few minutes later the vehicle wrecked off Little Creek Road near Old Winfield Road in Wadesboro.
NCSBI said a girl was inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man also had a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Investigators believe the child was shot by the man and that he also shot himself.
The age of the girl has not been released, nor has the identity of the man. This is still an active investigation.
