U.S. Border Patrol agents intercepted two drug smuggling attempts and confiscated narcotics worth nearly $800,000 last week in San Clemente.
The agents seized around 140 pounds of drugs within 24 hours from the San Diego station.
Border agents arrested a driver on March 17 at 2:52 p.m. after they found 29 packages of heroin, fentanyl and cocaine in the driver’s vehicle during a search at a Border Patrol station.
Agents turned the driver, who will face federal prosecution, over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
A second vehicle was stopped and searched at the San Clemente Station the following day around 6:25 a.m., where agents found 30 packages of cocaine.
The driver and narcotics were taken into custody by the DEA for federal prosecution, and both vehicles were seized.
Jeffery Stalnaker, acting chief patrol agent of the San Diego sector, said the back-to-back enforcement actions of agents demonstrated “exceptional skill and commitment.”
In fiscal year 2025, San Diego sector agents have seized 906 pounds of cocaine, 157 pounds of fentanyl, and 19 pounds of heroin, according to the Border Patrol.
